In front of a computer screen, of course.Well, #ZinTaste Live starts tonight at 5:00pm PST and we will be going through six different wines from the appellations of Alexander Valley and Dry Creek Valley, both in Northern Sonoma County. We will kick off the tastings at 5:15 and each wine will be poured, paired with food and talked about for 10 minutes each.
The lineup:
Alexander Valley (5:15 -5:45)
2008 Sin Zin from Alexander Valley Vineyards is a 100% zinfandel from Alexander Valley, made with All American Oak. The fruit is sourced from a variety of vineyards with differing microclimates. It delivers heady aromas of black cherry, eucalyptus, cocoa and mint and flavors of black cherry, plum, vanilla and black pepper. A perfect wine to enjoy with ribs, pulled pork or a chili cheeseburger.
2008 Seghesio Home Ranch is a lush jammy zinfandel from century-old vines in warm Alexander Valley. It has 8% petite sirah and was voted best American Zinfandel by FOOD & WINE magazine. It pairs nicely with beef, game, red sauces, spicy cuisine and even mascarpone cheese.
2008 Ridge Geyserville is a single vineyard designate zinfandel with 72% zinfandel, 20% carignane, 18% petite sirah, 2% mataro. It is a ripe black cherry, blueberry, plum sauce zin. The grapes are grown in three adjoining vineyards on a defined stretch of gravelly soil
Dry Creek Valley (5:45 – 6:15)
2007 Seghesio Cortina from Dry Creek Valley is the only 100% zinfandel that Seghesio makes. The fruit comes from a vineyard planted in the 50’s and tastes of red raspberry, boysenberry, briary/brambly, and spicy white pepper qualities are enhanced with higher acidity due to the cooler growing area.
2006 Redemption Zin from Alexander Valley Vineyards is a 100% zinfandel from Dry Creek Valley. This zin shows substantial blackberry and plum flavors along with a healthy dose of black pepper and subtle notes of orange peel and glycerin. It won a Gold Medal in the 2009 San Francisco Chronicle Wine Competition
2007 Ridge Lytton Springs is a field blend of three different varietals (71% zin). It exhibits a similar dark ruby/purple hue as well as more black fruits and spice in the impressive aromatics. It is a fuller-bodied, richer wine with beautiful texture, purity, and length.
Corked Demo/Networking (6:15 – 7:00)
Hone your wine knowledge with lab samples of wine defects courtesy of the winemakers. Guests will be able to test their skills at detecting if a wine is corked or not... And, there will be plenty of San Tasti on hand to make sure everyone's pallets are cleansed. There will also be a Wine Soiree or two to taste the differences in decanted vs. non-decanted wines.
We will make sure to film this for those who cannot make it up to Healdsburg! Remember, you don't have to have one of the zins above to join in on the fun, any zin will do, just make sure to join along with the hashtag #ZinTaste!!!
See you tonight.......
